The 33rd KSGA Public Hearing on Distributed Energy Resource Technologies and Standards
The Korea Smart Grid Association held a public hearing on distributed energy resource technologies and standards, covering grid-forming inverters and AC/DC networks. Three researchers from the Center attended to review key requirements and performance verification procedures.
Overview
About this event
The Korea Smart Grid Association (KSGA) held its 33rd Public Hearing on Distributed Energy Resource Technologies and Standards at COEX on October 7, 2026. The event introduced technology developments and draft standards for grid-forming (GFM) inverters, distributed energy resources, and hybrid AC/DC distribution networks, addressing the development of technical requirements and testing criteria.
The morning technical sessions covered the background of GFM inverter testing procedures, progress in international standardization, and the role and future application of GFM inverters in power systems. The hearing also introduced the proposed revision of “Grid-Forming Inverters—Part 1: Functional and Performance Requirements” and the proposed new standard for “Part 2: Controller Performance Test Methods,” linking required capabilities with methods for verifying performance.
The afternoon sessions addressed communication information models and interoperability testing between distributed energy resource monitoring and control devices and the resources themselves, data provision for integrated services, and performance evaluation requirements for hybrid AC/DC distribution network operating systems. Control and protection requirements for medium-voltage multi-terminal converter stations were also presented, covering standardization topics from information exchange to DC network operation and protection.
Three researchers from the Center attended the technical sessions and presentations on draft standards. They reviewed standardization developments, particularly GFM inverter functional and performance requirements and controller testing methods, and identified relevant considerations for future research and performance verification involving GFM technologies and AC/DC networks.
